MISTY
Misty of Chincoteague by Marguerite Henry, the
horse that started it all.
Chincoteague island is famous for many and varied
reasons, but the most famous of all is the book Misty of
Chincoteague by Marguerite Henry. Misty is the story of a wild pony
and two children who want to buy her at the yearly auction of the
wild ponies, where they swim from Assateague to Chincoteague in July
under the watchful gaze of the salt water cowboys. Misty was
Marguerite Henry's most famous book, it is beautifully written and
enjoyed by all age groups, and is part of the library at all schools
along the Eastern shore. The wonderful part about all this is that,
Marguerite Henry wrote Misty at Miss Molly's in 1947 when she
boarded with Miss Molly and her uncle Capt. Jack. You will find
treasures and memento's, books and video's about Misty all over the
Island, but only you can say you stayed where Misty was written.
